Chinese trial finds gum stem cells improve Type 1 diabetes in 55% of patients

BEIJING PSqure Daily Correspondent

A phase 1 clinical trial in China has demonstrated that stem cells harvested from human gum tissue can effectively treat patients with Type 1 diabetes. Medical professionals in Shanghai and Guangzhou found that more than half of the participants responded positively to the experimental procedure.

The randomised study explored the efficacy of using oral stem cells to combat the lifelong condition. Among the subjects who underwent the therapy, 55 per cent experienced varying levels of health improvement.

Highlighting the treatment's potential, one trial participant achieved total independence from their standard medical regimen. Following the stem cell intervention, this individual was able to completely discontinue all exogenous insulin therapy.
