Bodhana Sivanandan becomes International Master at 11, breaking 38-year-old chess record

Eleven-year-old Bodhana Sivanandan has made chess history by becoming an International Master, breaking a record that had stood untouched for 38 years. The young English player achieved the milestone during this week's European Women's Chess Club Cup.

Sivanandan demonstrated her ability against highly decorated opponents early in the competition. In her opening-round match, she came remarkably close to earning a draw against Russian Grandmaster Aleksandra Goryachkina.

Building on that early momentum, she advanced to the third round and successfully defeated Belarusian International Master Olga Badelka.
