Jamia Millia Islamia to resume student union elections after two decades
The university has revoked disciplinary actions against protesters and ordered polls within 15 days of constitutional approval.
Jamia Millia Islamia will resume student union elections after two decades, with polls ordered to take place within 15 days of the student union constitution's approval. The university has also revoked recent disciplinary actions taken against protesting students and ordered an inquiry into the conduct of its security personnel.
As part of the resolution, protesting students will issue a public apology for statements made against the university administration and remove all related posts from social media. However, two students are continuing their hunger strike, citing a lack of assurances regarding their demands for the Vice-Chancellor and the Chief Proctor to resign.
Meanwhile, the university administration has filed a police complaint accusing Congress Members of Parliament of trespassing during the recent protests. Delhi Police have yet to respond to the trespassing complaint, nor have they addressed allegations that multiple students were detained outside the university's Gate 7.
