Home Affairs draft mandates Lieutenant Governor's approval for Ladakh legislation

A new draft from the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding administrative demands made by Ladakh stipulates that the region's elected body will not possess independent lawmaking powers. Under the proposed document, any legislation formulated by the representatives strictly requires the approval of the Lieutenant Governor.

The framework addresses governance requests from the territory by defining the boundaries of local legislative authority. While the elected body would be able to pass laws, the structure ensures that ultimate authorization and final consent remain entirely dependent on the Lieutenant Governor's endorsement.
