Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, R. Ashok, has accused the State Election Commission of violating regulations to facilitate irregularities in the proposed GBA elections. He alleged that 90 lakh voter identity cards were printed in Bengaluru at a cost of ₹20 crore, following the Election Commission of India's announcement of a Special Intensive Revision.

The State Election Commission has denied the accusations.

The dispute emerges as Karnataka publishes its final electoral roll following the conclusion of the Special Intensive Revision. As part of this comprehensive statewide revision process, more than 99.32 lakh names have been removed from the electoral rolls.
