Telangana launches four-month employment initiative amid drought fears
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has outlined a relief programme to support workers and monitor dwindling water supplies as El Niño conditions threaten the state.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced a four-month employment initiative to assist workers confronting the threat of a prolonged drought linked to El Niño.
Water levels in the state's reservoirs have dropped to critical conditions, leaving numerous agricultural pump sets completely dry.
The relief programme is scheduled to commence following the Sankranti festival and will generate supplementary workdays for the workforce. In addition to the employment support, the state government plans to closely monitor regional water reserves, ensuring the ongoing provision of drinking water and necessary fodder for livestock.
